Balloon Safari

On the day of your balloon ride, you will be picked up between 04:00 and 05:00 in the morning from your lodge or camp and driven to the launch site in a Land Rover or Land Cruiser. The ride is already reminiscent of a nocturnal game drive, where you may spot nocturnal animals with some luck.

At the launch site, you will meet your pilot, receive a detailed safety briefing, and witness the impressive inflation of the balloon. With the first light of the day – around 06:30 a.m. – the balloon takes off and gently ascends into the sky alongside the rising sun.

During the approximately one-hour flight, the direction is solely determined by the wind. The pilot can precisely control the flight altitude: at times, you glide just above treetops, enjoying spectacular photo opportunities of the wildlife below, while at other times, you ascend to over 300 meters to experience the impressive panorama of the national park from a bird's eye view. Amidst the brief burner sounds, there is almost complete silence – only the natural sounds of the wilderness can be heard.

After landing, the balloon ride is traditionally celebrated with a glass of champagne. Subsequently, you will be treated to a freshly prepared breakfast in the midst of the wilderness in an elegant "Out of Africa" style. Various dietary options are available.

After breakfast, you will receive your personal flight certificate. Around 09:45 a.m., you will reunite with your safari guide and continue your day's program. Following the balloon ride, you will also receive a link to the complimentary souvenir photos of your experience.

The balloons are made by the best manufacturers in the world, Cameron Balloons of the UK & UltraMagic of Spain. The colour of our balloons are Acacia Green & Savannah Gold to blend in with colours of the Serengeti. The burners are state of the art, chosen for their reliability and minimal noise.

The pilots are considered the best of the best in the industry. All are highly experienced, internationally licensed commercial balloon pilots. Our partner Serengeti Balloon Safaris also employ Tanzania’s only ballooning examiner, testament to our focus on ensuring safe practices and our place as leaders in the industry.

Serengeti Balloon Safaris is regulated as a commercial airline by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority under ICAO rules.

They also ensure the highest possible safety practices throughout the company and employ an independent specialist advisor to constantly review these.
