8 Days Tanzania Safari: Your first real African experience

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to Arusha. There, you can settle into your comfortable accommodation and relax after the journey.

In the evening, you will receive a personal introduction to your upcoming safari. Your driver-guide or a member of our team will go through all the important details with you and prepare you optimally for the days ahead.

Today is all about settling in and preparing. You have the opportunity to relax at your accommodation, enjoy the pool, or explore the surroundings of Arusha at your own pace.

If you wish, you can take part in optional activities, such as a visit to the city, a local market, or a small excursion into the nature around Arusha. At the same time, there is plenty of time to get ready for the upcoming safari adventure.

Your guide is available at all times to answer your questions and ensure that you start the coming days well-prepared.

After breakfast, your safari adventure begins: you head to Tarangire National Park, located about four hours from Arusha. The landscape changes already on the way.

Tarangire National Park is known for its large herds of elephants, impressive baobab trees, and exceptionally diverse wildlife. Along the Tarangire River – the main water source of the region – numerous animals gather, especially during the dry season.

During your game drive, you have the opportunity to observe elephants up close and, with some luck, also spot lions, leopards, or cheetahs. Each encounter is unique and makes this day an unforgettable experience.

In the afternoon, you reach your cozy safari lodge, where you can end the day in a relaxed manner.

After breakfast, you continue your journey to the legendary Serengeti, one of the most famous wildlife reserves in the world. Already during the drive, the endless savannas for which this national park is famous unfold before you.

After a picnic at Naabi Hill Gate, your first safari experience in the Serengeti begins. During your game drive, you may already discover the impressive wildlife, from large predators to huge wildebeest and zebra herds that are part of the famous Great Migration.

In the evening, you reach your lodge in the heart of the Serengeti, where you can enjoy the special atmosphere of this unique place in peace.

The day starts early, and that's what makes it so special: during your morning game drive, you experience the Serengeti in one of its most active phases. Many animals are now searching for food, and with some luck, you can witness impressive hunting scenes or rare encounters.

Upon your return, you enjoy a hearty lunch before continuing your journey. On the way towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you can expect more exciting animal sightings and ever-changing landscape views.

In the afternoon, you reach your lodge near the Ngorongoro Crater. A perfect place to end the day in a relaxed manner and prepare for the next highlight.

After an early breakfast, you descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive natural wonders of Africa. Within this unique setting, there is an exceptionally high density of wildlife: over 30,000 animals, including lions, elephants, zebras, and with some luck, even the rare black rhinoceros.

During your game drive through the crater, you will witness spectacular scenes time and time again. Here, you have one of the best chances to experience the famous "Big Five" in just one day.

At noon, you enjoy a picnic at the idyllic Ngoitoktok Hippo Pool, surrounded by hippos and a fascinating landscape.

In the afternoon, you make your way back to Arusha, where you spend the final evening of your journey in a comfortable accommodation.

After the intense experiences of the past few days, this day is all about relaxation. You have time to let the impressions of your safari sink in and enjoy your stay at the accommodation in a relaxed manner.

Whether you relax by the pool, enjoy a good meal, or take another stroll through Arusha, you can shape this day according to your own preferences.

At the same time, it is an opportunity to reflect on the past days and consciously savor the many special moments of your journey.

Today marks the farewell to Tanzania. After breakfast, you will be taken to Kilimanjaro International Airport – depending on your departure time.

With unforgettable memories of impressive landscapes, fascinating wildlife encounters, and special moments, you begin your journey back home.

Yes, you need a tourist visa for entry, which currently costs 50 USD. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. It can be applied for online through the official government website or issued directly on arrival at the airport.  

The official currency in Tanzania is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). For everyday expenses like restaurants, local markets, or small shops, Tanzanian Shillings are usually used for payment.

In tourist areas, hotels, and with safari providers, US dollars and euros are often accepted.

Money can be easily withdrawn in major cities and at many ATMs, usually dispensing Tanzanian Shillings.

International credit cards like Visa or Mastercard are accepted at many ATMs.

Before traveling to Tanzania, we recommend scheduling an appointment with a tropical medicine specialist at least 8 weeks in advance. There, you will receive individual advice on necessary or recommended vaccinations as well as important health measures for your trip.

Since Tanzania is a malaria-risk area, malaria prophylaxis is often recommended. The tropical medicine specialist can also advise you on suitable vaccinations and check whether your existing immunizations are sufficient or if boosters are advisable.

In many parts of the country, dressing is relaxed, but Zanzibar is influenced by Islam. Outside of the beaches, shoulders and knees should be covered; short shorts or crop tops are inappropriate in public spaces.

Game drives usually start very early around 7:00 AM as that's when the animals are most active. You will be in a vehicle with a pop-up roof that offers great all-around visibility. A pair of binoculars is provided per vehicle at no cost, but you can rent an additional one for a fee.

Observe the animals quietly and always maintain a distance. In most cases, you will be in the safari vehicle during animal sightings, and you should only exit when your guide permits it. Animals should never be touched or fed. Additionally, it's important not to leave any litter in nature!

In Tanzania, tipping is a fixed part of the driver's income. As a guideline, you should plan to allocate around 30 US dollars per day per vehicle. It's helpful to always have cash in small denominations for such purposes.

You will typically have breakfast and dinner at your lodge (buffet or set menu). For lunch, you will either receive a packed lunch that your driver will have for you to enjoy during the day in the bush, or he will prepare a warm bush dinner in nature for you. During game drives, you will have access to ample complimentary drinking water in the vehicle at all times. If you have any food intolerances, you should inform in advance at least four weeks before the trip.
